Hey Jim, I've got his Cd "A Show of Hands" by Victor Wooten, pretty good playing, very fast, technically very good, but not my kind of thing, just doesn't do it for me, He's an awesome player though Have you heard any of these guy's, some great fretless & fretted playing, (more fretless) Like Percy Jones who used to play with Brand X, I'd never heard anyone play like him, his bass style was like the notes where bubbling and his harmonic slides, (took me some time to get the slides right lol) if you've not heard him, try and get to listen to him, if you like bass playing i think you'll like him, Then there's a guy called Craig Schoedler, from NJ, he's got a Cd out called "By The Water" plays fretted & Fretless, Also a guy called "Mark Egan" I think from NY, that's got a Cd called "Freedom Town" he plays a 4 & 8 string fretted, and 5 & 6 string fretless bass, Then a guy called Andy Woodson, his Cd's called "Scioto" There are a lot more good unknown players out there, But try and give them a listen, like i said, if you like bass playing, you should like these guy's

Thanks Cofi
Checking those guys out, never heard of any of them I must admit.
Did you know Jaco Pastorius had a son Felix who is now playing and touring.
Incidentally, Sassafras are playing at Martyr's Club Merthyr on 17th November 2007. Anywhere near you?

Unfortunately we can't make the Sass gig.
They are booked to play at the Americana International Show at Newark in July so we will catch them there.
I wasn't sure which part of Wales you lived in, we lived in Colwyn Bay for a while. My wife's dad came from South Wales near Cardiff.
Incidentally I see you are a biker, did you ever visit Rossendale for our bike show? I helped to organise it.
Ride safe
Jim

1-John Entwistle-He was to Bass guitar what Chuck Berry was to the six string guitar. Nobody looked at the intrument the same once he burst onto the scene. 2-John Paul Jones-Quietly help revolutionize the instrument for Rock'n Roll along with Entwistle 3-Charlie Hayward (Charlie Daniels Band)-Re-listen to CDB's catalog with special attention to the bass lines. The guy was/is amazing! 4-Mark Fitzgerald (Cahrlie Daniels Band) If I'm gonna mention Hayward, I guess I should mention his predecessor. Fitzgerald really set the bar high for what playing bass in CDB requires. I read an interview with Hayward one time saying how good Fitzgerald was and how he was nice enough to stick around and teach Hayward some of the trickier bass lines after he quit the group. 5-Billy Sheenan-I could easily put him at #1, but he's almost TOO GOOD for bass. I mean, these other guys are good without detracting from the song at hand, Sheenan can play circles around these other 4, but by that time, one loses track of the low end of the song. Gotta give the guy props for his chops, but I'd rather have the other guys in MY band, few bands need a show-off bass player.

Some mighty fine bassist mentioned there Jesse John Entwistle, without a doubt a brilliant bassist, & is considered by many to be the best bass guitarist that ever lived, & it is often said that he did for the bass what Jimi Hendrix did for the guitar, He was also a very nice guy, I had met him quite a few times, and he did influence a lot of bassist. As " John Paul Jones" did, and who was the influencer, the one and only James Jamerson Not forgetting " Paul McCartney" with his very melodic playing, & also " Chris Squire" from the band " Yes", Billy Sheenan is another one like Wooten, that i cant get into, granted, he also can play really well, but It's not what Im into & like, the same goes for " Bootsy Collins"

another good bassist Jim, excellent, There's some mighty fine bassist out there, i remember reading and then listening to this country session bassist, (sorry cant remember his name) where he'd done a solo album, playing a fretless 6 string bass, shit he was amazing, When you heard his normal bass playing with the country artist, you would never imaging that he could and did this kind of playing, Yes sir, there are plenty good bassist out there
