What is Blues?

Blues seems to be one of those genre’s that is a bit difficult to pinpoint. You can describe something as being bluesy, but that doesn’t make it blues. Maybe it’s the face. Maybe if you just make the face in whatever you’re playing, it becomes blues. There’s something deeply felt about blues. Those that play tend to feel something. Maybe that just soul.

Blues is, at its heart, an unchanging form of musical self-expression based on folk forms brought over with the first slaves from Africa to America. It's these tragic roots which have meant that it has become the foremost form of conveying the misery of the human condition, bar none.
