Marc Leon
Blues / Jazz / Southern Rock
Marc Leon has been associated with many bands and artists who now form a part of Australian Music History. He has earned the respect of his peers as a musician who is not afraid to take on new challenges and constantly works on refining his skills as a composer and performer.
Marc began his musical career in 1960 as lead singer in local Rock & Roll bands and by 1966, his musical interests shifted towards Jazz, Blues and Soul. He was influenced by musicians such as Ray Charles, BB King , Wes Montgomery and the Soul artists who recorded for the "Stax" label.

Over the years, Marc has shared the stage with many International acts like The Kinks, Mungo Jerry, Bee Gees, Jose Feliciano, Fairport Convention and Roberta Flack. He worked as a studio session musician, as well as guitarist and musical director for several Australian Top Celebrities, including John Farnham, Colleen Hewett, Normie Rowe and John St. Peters.
Marc also taught guitar for many years in music schools and his home studio. Some of Marc's songs have made it into the finals of the American Song Festival (1976) and the MBAS Blues Performer Of The Year contest (1995).

The music on this Instrumental CD runs the gamut of styles that influenced me over the years - Jazz, Rock, Blues, Fusion, Latin, Ambient, Acoustic ..., not only is each track different, there are mood changes within most of the songs as well. In short, it's a Marketing Person's nightmare, but don't be put off by that.
If you're into diversity, this CD is for you!

"Whipping Post manage to combine my fave elements from Johnny Winter and the Allman Brothers, but put their own stamp on it, whether it's foot stompin' rockin' blues or a moody piece. This album is awesome!" Max Crawdaddy - 3RRR FM.
"damn The Distance" documents Whipping Post and their rugged pastoral vision. Drawing heavily from the sound of southern American rock, the original compositions work the genre well. These guys score a swag of points in my book, because this is the best jam it in the CD player-and- driiiiiive album I've heard all year!"Stephen Andrews - Rhythms Magazine.
"Listening to this CD, the southern sound is very prominent. Marc Leon's Country/Chicago Blues guitar sound acts as a counter balance to Ray Flegg's great slide work, similar to the dual guitars in the Allman Brothers Band. The voices of Marc and Rob also work well together. Given that the band's music sounds American, it is refreshing to hear lyrics with a strong Australian flavour." Dave Ray - Beat Magazine.

"The Power Of The Blues".
For me, the "Blues" is about "Feeling", not "Style" and that's what this album is all about. The songs on this CD encompass a diversity of the genre, from driving Hard Rock to smooth Jazz ballads. Brian and I used two rhythm sections,to add to the authenticity of the music.
The first session was recorded 'Live' in the studio (including vocals), while the second one was more structured and layered with over-dubs. In retrospect, I believe I managed to "hold the feeling" throughout, thanks to the great musicians who supported me on this project. - Marc Leon.
