[shadow=red,left,300]Allen Woody[/shadow]
Allen Woody is one of my very few favourie bassist, i just loved his meldodic style of playing, and his thunderous runs, with booming chords, which is very important for a trio band like Gov;t Mule
with Gov't Mule he brought back the rock and roll bass playing, of such bassist as Jack Bruce, Chris Squire, not all this slapping, and popping,, which most bassist seemd to favour then. with him and Matt, they had a great grove and a solid backing rhythm going, which left a lot of room for Warren's guitar.
Allen was Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, he started to play mandolin and bass when he was very young, his main influence was Paul McCartney, and i suppose that did show in his bass playing, especialy with Gov't Mule, he was a very talented musician, he majored in music at middle Tennessee State University,

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Douglas Allen Woody (b. 10/3/1955 - d. 8/26/2000) was the bass player for rock groups The Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule, The Artemus Pyle Band, The Peter Criss Band and Montage. Woody joined The Allman Brothers Band along with guitarist Warren Haynes upon the group's reunion in 1989. Woody and Haynes formed side project Gov't Mule in 1994 with drummer Matt Abts. The two of them decided to leave The Allman Brothers Band in 1997 to put a full-time effort into Gov't Mule. Woody passed away in 2000, leaving behind his wife Jenny and daughter Savannah. The cause of his death has not been publicly released (or determined?), and consequently has been speculated among fans.
Woody's death helped Haynes in his decision to return to The Allman Brothers Band. Gov't Mule continued on after his death with Andy Hess assuming bass duties

After his death, Epiphone released the Allen Woody Rumble Kat limited edition bass guitar.
Woody was a respected bass guitarist - he had a large collection of bass guitars (around 450), featured in his own 'masterclass' bass instruction video and was held in high esteem for his playing. His proficient technique was characterized by steady playing of the 16th note, while maintaining consistent rhythm. The Epiphone signature bass was similar to two specially built double-neck instruments that Gibson made him... a bass/guitar and a bass/mandolin. Allen usually played the Gibson EB series, but at times played a Richenbacker or Gibson Thunderbird. Ampeg SVT was his amp of choice most of the time.

In August 2000, the world was saddened by the loss of this tremendous talent. Fortunately, we are blessed by the knowledge that Allen’s spirit lives on in his music for all time. Allen Woody is survived by his wife and daughter. To honor this legend, the Savannah Woody Education Fund was created.
