Skynyrd Tribute Weekend October 19-20
A "Skynyrd Tribute Weekend" will be held Oct. 19 and 20 at Sharky's Place in the Quality Inn & Conference Center, 300 Park Ave., Orange Park, Florida.
The tribute will kick off at 6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday nights with music by KYMYSTRY (host band), Barry Lee Harwood (Rossington-Collins Band & Allen Collins Band), Skytrain, Drivin South, DB Hackett & The Cross Creek Band, Shane Dodson and other performers. A "Skynyrd Frynds Unplugged" tribute is planned both nights with a candlelight vigil on Saturday night.
Admission is free, and all musicians are donating their time and talent and are not paid to perform.
A Skynyrd Sytes Tour caravan is planned for noon on Saturday, Oct. 20, visiting locations of Lynyrd Skynyrd-related points of interest.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the infamous plane crash that ended the original band. Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006. The current Lynyrd Skynyrd Band is on tour.
Lynyrd Skynyrd fans gather in Jacksonville/Orange Park every October to honor Jacksonville's own Lynyrd Skynyrd band and their music. This annual "free" event is solely organized and presented by Jacksonville rock band KYMYSTRY and Internet-based Lynyrd Skynyrd fan group, Frynds.com. This event is strictly a "fan-based" event and no band members are expected to be in attendance.
