8-)Hey cofi, you seem like someone who grew up around the same time as me.
The Beatles turned me on to music, and I bought my first and only six-string guitar, a Hofner Senator semi-acoustic.
In the early seventies my brothers and I decided we would like to form a band, and because one of our friends was great lead guitarist and my brother John complimented him, I converted to bass. Around this time we met a guy who became our manager, he had been a roadie with various bands including Yes and Suzy Quattro. We hit the semi-pro road, playing and working at the same time. We used to play at venues where Def Leppard were playing before they became famous.
Any way, our manager had toured the US where he had discovered The Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Molly Hatchett and Charlie Daniels.
Around this time we used to go to gigs featuring Sassafras, George Hatcher, Snafu, Budgie, Strife, Hawkwind, Steve Gibbons and the great Rory.
Gave up playing seriously, when our first son was born. Who incidentally is named after the bass player from Sassafras - Ricky John Holt.
These days, apart from The Outlaws, I seem to listen to Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and Big and Rich, and a band called Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band.
Stay Well
Jim

I do know a little about the George Hatcher Band. I worked stage hand for them at The Cumberland County Memorial Auditorium and Arena Complex in Fayetteville NC in the early eighties. There is little if any online about the G.H.B. yet they were AWESOME. I have seen photos online that claim to be of George as recently as 2002. Finding this forum was one of the limited returns for google. As with most all bands the G.H.B went through many changes during their run which I am trying to verify may continue today, in any case they were a Powerhouse top notch A list act that had super soulful vocals from a singer who took the stage as His own, then took the audience to another place, creating a common bond woven through songs that tell of the up's and down's of life and love like a window that is also a mirror, one can see through it yet they also see themselves. These down to earth very easy to relate to lyrics, when mixed with a large helping of hot rockin guitars, great keyboards, teamed with tight bass lines and a dynamic drummer make the G.H.B both entertaining and able to stir deep feelings of a good life filled with things like love lost and days gone by. Check out the very hard to find Album Coming Home. It is Very Cool . Though they may have been in the shadows of our minds eye for a Long time like an old friend one wishes would come back to town if only for one nite their story still needs to be told and their music heard, that is why I joined this forum, to help make that happen. I will post again with more info as I find it. Koz07. Peace.

Thanks Kos07 Welcome to the board. members.tripod.com/~BUDGIEFANCLUB/index-5.html Above is a link to some photo's of John Thomas who played with George Hatcher, and now has a guitar shop in Birmingham last I heard. I went to see them a few times when they were playing over here in England, and was interested in finding out if he was still playing. A great band There is a site where a Bill Barclay says he was a tech for them for a couple of years, and he is credited on the Talking Turkey lp I have. users.accesscomm.ca/ccowan/G.Hatcher.page.html is a web page with a more recent photo of him and his band, but I don't know how recent. Thanks for the info will keep looking and search for that album. Jim

Hi Koz07 and
Yeah, there doesn't seem to be much info about George Hatcher on the web at all, except for a few teasing pages that really don't say nothing,
I was talking to a friend the other day, who works at the BBC, down in Cardiff, and he said that George is still going out gigging, Also he has been playing with some old friends (Micky Gee, Pete Hurley, Dai 'Tank' Watkins,) around South Wales, He said that he will try and find out more, and if he does he'll let me know ,
Also it might be worth while giving J T a ring at his shop, (thanks to Jim for the link to his shop) he might-should know something
Looking forward to more info

Hello and Peace to the members and friends of Southernrock&Blues,UK. Thank You for all the great info and letting me join. Please note my screen name is Koz07 not Kos07. I should mention that several months ago I met one of the former band members while doing some work. I mentioned the fact that I had worked for hundreds of bands and he said he was once in The George Hatcher Band and that they had played in places I spoke of, not that uncommon yet what is really awesome is how Cool this man is, Very laid back, no dig me type of cat. I told him he was the best person I had met all of last year and that says a whole lot because I meet new people All the time. I will post more on our meeting after making sure it is cool with him to mention him by name, that meeting renewed my interest in the GHB Bands music. What a bargain, memories refreshed, great music to jam on and I made a new friend, all from a chance meeting on a job. God surely works in mysterious ways, and I count it as a True Blessing. Peace Koz07.
