"UNDER THE GUN" the UKs, top Southern Rock band, brighton England U.K."
About Under the Gun
IT BEGINZ? I was Playing with a band that did some Dr feelgood RnB, Some songs by ZZtop and Lynyrd Skynyrd and various other album tracks that appealed to us to play..the band was call Brass Monkeys We were very popular in the venues that we played, but as is sometimes the case the band split up and I was left looking for another band......I had over an eghteen month period a few tryouts but most musicians intown wanted to do the usual ACDC, Led Zep, Hendrix, etc thing or Blues, already being done and done well by bands like Dirty Shoes, Electric Experience, Jinnhouse etc....I knew from playing with BM that audiences responded well to the southern rock sound....and whats more i enjoyed playing it.IT HAD TO BE DONE!
Around this time I met Matt Wyndler who had just moved here from the frozen North....Leeds. The most fabulous picker and slide playing Guitarist this side of....well... Leeds. It Just so happened that his dad bless him, had brought the young Matt up on a diet of ZZtop and Lynyrd Skynyrd which he loved to play..thank you supreme being! I then Drafted Big Al whom I had had the pleasure of doing countless jam sessions and all nite parties with for a hell of a long time and whom I knew to be a guitar playing genius (there aint a song that he dont know between 1956 and 1990 when lets face it music took a turn for the worse) he can also play while asleep....Ive seen him do it!
most people would have stopped there.....Not Me..Skynyrd have got 3 lead guitars
Molly hatchett had 3 lead guitars so 3it had to be...while sitting in the Portland Rock bar one day In walked Mel jones who was a good friend of my old Brass Monkeys guitarist, and i told him (much to his surprise) that he was in the band!
YEAR OF BIRTH 2005, and so it started...the drummer Paul Johnson came from the Brass Monkeys, and on backing vocals and glamour I brought my good friend Lorraine....The first gig supported by a lot of our friends from the Portland Rock bar in Hove was at the Kings Head at Southwick with me on bass and lead vocals, over time Lorraine did more lead vox and big Al and Matt with Mel who being welsh has a lovely singing voice 'from calling sheep in the valleys boyo' doing backup vox. During 2006 Matt had to leave to pursue his career and will no doubt be rich and famous one day....and we had to kiss goodbye to Lorraine who wants to sing more jazzy type of material to which she is ably suited. So then ther were Four... But a quick ad brought to us the mighty guitar sound of Tony Morriso. Paul left in early 07 so he could have more time for his numerous holidays.....Mel has left us to become a 55 year old grunge player (be riding a skateboard next). and we have the hard workin Andy from somewhere near Hastings on drums now. welcome to 2008
gettin on for three years ..if it aint Dixie style it aint played by us. We play covers mostly By Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Allman Bros.,ZZ Top (the early stuff), Johnnie Winter, Blackfoot, Georgia satellites, Fabulous Thunderbirds, and even George Thorogood cause we do like a little slide playin. In fact we do 'gearjammer' with all three guitarists playin slide at once sounds f**kin awesome.
