I am going to do a survey. I am going to be polling this and other forum sites to determine the Greatest Southern Rock Song Ever. Please e-mail me with your choice for the GSRSE at dennistruckdriver@peoplepc.com. Your choice should be a well-known, or at least, not an obscure, song by a band that is commonly considered in the 'Southern Rock' genre. I will keep track, and later, will offer up a choice of the top four or five to determine the GSRSE, once and for all. Some choices of mine are, Green Grass and High Tides by The Outlaws, 24 Hours at a Time by Marshall Tucker Band, Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd......see what I mean? I will be waiting patiently by my e-mail box for your thoughts and recommendations.

I made a list of 150 greatest Southern Rock songs a few years ago. I'm not sure I'm going to be consistant with that list for this survey though. "Free Bird" and "Green Grass..." are too long. "Can't You See", "Sweet Home..." and "Keep Your Hands..." too simple. So I'm gonna move down my list and nominate Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' With Disaster" for this survey. Clocking in just under 5 minutes, it's relatively short and to the point. Nice boogie beat with Southern Drawl vocals and prerequisite twin guitar lead. The perfect Southern Rock tune.

I wouldn't argue with that one! 'Flirtin'' is one of my faves! Length is not a factor in determining the GSRSE. Some of my faves are VERY long! No such thing as TOO long! The video for Green Grass on Youtube is nearly 20 minutes long! Send your choices to my e-mail address: dennistruckdriver@peoplepc.com

[shadow=red,left,300]I've been to Alabama, people ain't a whole lot to see; Skynyrd says it's a real sweet home but it ain't nothing to me. Charlie Daniels will tell you the good Lord lives in Tenessee, ha! But I'm going back to gator country where the wine and the women are free.
Chorus: There's a gator in the bushes, he's calling my name, And a saying come on boy, you better make it back home again. There's many roads I've travelled but they all kind of look the same. There's a gator in the bushes, Lord, he calling my name.
Old Richard Betts will tell ya Lord he was born a Ramblin' Man. Well he can ramble back to Georgia but I won't give a damn. Elvin Bishop out struttin his stuff with little Miss Slick Titty Boom. But I'm going back to gator country to get me some elbow room.
There's a gator in the bushes he's calling my name. and saying come on boy, you better make it back home again. There's many roads I've travelled but they all kinda look the same. There's a gator in the bushes, Lord, he calling my name. Yep.
There's Marshall Tucker riding a rainbow searching for a pot of gold. Well they can take the highway, baby, and they can take all they can hold. The Outlaws down in Tampa town it's a mighty fine place to be. They got green grass and got high tides and sure looks good to me.
Chorus: There's a gator in the bushes, he's calling my name. Saying come on boy, you better make it back home again. There's so many roads I've travelled but they all kinda look the same. There's a gator in the bushes , Lord, he's calling my name.
LEAD BREAK
Oh gator country, a little bit of that chomp chomp
